Charles F. Ruckman of Karnes City, Texas passed away Friday, March 25, 2005, at Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital. He was 91 years, 4 months, and 24 days old.

Charles was born October 30, 1913 in San Antonio. He married Bernice Janecek Ruckman on October 15, 1939 in Runge, Texas. Charles went to work for the Humble Oil & Refining Co. of Houston in 1937. He retired after 38 years of service in Houston and Baytown.

Charles was active in the Boy Scouts and other activities with his three boys. In 1958, he was elected Mayor of Hedwig Village, a suburb of Houston. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Karnes City, serving as treasurer for 20 years. Charles graduated from Karnes City High School in 1932; he then attended Schreiner Institute for 2 years and graduated in 1937 from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree.

Charles is survived by his wife, Bernice Janecek Ruckman; sons, Paul Ruckman of San Antonio, Bob and Deirdre Ruckman of Dallas and Dr. Richard and Deborah Ruckman of Lufkin; brother, Tom Ruckman; five grandchildren, Heather Rios, Summer Ruckman, Tom Ruckman, Jennifer Ruckman and Becky Ruckman; two step-grandchildren, Scott and Rob Looney; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Tanner, and Barret Rios. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Follmer Ruckman Sr.; mother, Willie Butler Mayfield Ruckman; sister, Mary Pace; and brother, Joe Ruckman.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William P. Menn and Rev. Bette Burris officiating. Burial followed at the Karnes City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Chris Rios, H.B. Ruckman III, Thomas F. Ruckman, John Fain, Jay Janecek, and Andrew Boening. Memorials may be made to the Karnes County Historical Society and the Karnes City Library. Services under the direction of Rhodes Funeral Home, Karnes City, Texas. 830-780-3334.
