Shirley Marie Rubert Goodenow, 83, of Canton, Pa., died Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.

Shirley was born in North Towanda Township, Pa., on Jan. 3, 1931 the daughter of the late Lawrence T. Rubert and Ruth Margaret Harris Rubert. She was a graduate of Towanda High School. On Aug. 9, 1951 Shirley married Dick LeRoy Goodenow. Shirley was formerly employed by the ASCS office, the Superstore which is now the Dandy Mini Mart in Towanda, and GTE Sylvania. She worked part-time at the J. Andrew Morrow Elementary School cafeteria and served as a Bradford County Deputy Sheriff under Thomas Fairchild and Steve Evans. Following her retirement in 1994, she resided at the Page Manor in Athens. Shirley was active in the Clown Ministry and served as President of the Page Manor Tennant Association in 1998. Shirley was devoted to the Lord and read her Bible faithfully every day. Her family was her life. She enjoyed shopping traveling, playing bingo, reading and board games. Shirley possessed a bubbly personality and enjoyed life. When her health began to decline, Shirley made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Andrew Miller in Canton, Pa. Shirley attended the Faith Baptist Church in Canton and the Alba Christian Church.

Surviving are her children Linda Miller and husband Andrew of Canton, Gary Goodenow and wife Claudia of Hornbrook, Robert Goodenow and wife Jody of Nashville, Tenn.; brothers Lawrence Rubert of Sayre, Charles Rubert of Sayre; grandchildren Bridget Temple Stambaugh and husband Kurt of Lewsiburg, Pa., William Temple and wife Jayna of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Kelly Bomboy and husband Tim of Rush, Pa., Kim Pitcher of Rush, Pa., Richie Goodenow and wife Lesley of Bargersville, Ind., Ryan Goodenow and wife Amanda of LaVerne, Tenn.; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dick LeRoy Goodenow and son, Dale Edward Goodenow.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor John Lattimer of the Faith Baptist Church, Canton, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hornbrook Cemetery, Sheshequin Township, Pa. The family suggests that contributions may be directed to the Faith Baptist Church, Route 414, Canton, Pa., or to the Happy Tails No-Kill Animal Shelter, P.O.
