Obituary in The Times and Democrat, Orangeburg, SC, 5 Jul 2008: Neeses - Vera Rowe Helb Bonnette, 89, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at The Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, July 5, at Pine Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Pine Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jamey Wooten, Tripp Wingard, Daniel Flake, Josh Wingard, Hunter Stubbs, Bill Haney, Benji Kuck, Kim Dempsey and David Rowe. Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Adult Sunday School Class, Pine Hill United Methodist Church and the Regional Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae and administrative staff. Mrs. Bonnette was born in Saluda, Feb. 19, 1919. She was the daughter of Andrew Sampson "Ab" and Nannie Clara Palmer Rowe. She finished Newberry High School and School of Nursing at Tri County Hospital (The Regional Medical Center). She was a member of the National League of Nurses, The State Nurses Association. She served in Word War II as 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She was a member of the Pine Hill United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She is registered in the National Nurses Memorial in Washington, D.C., which honors all women who have served the U.S. She retired in 1984 from Orangeburg Regional Medical Center as Associate Director of Nursing Service. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Charles H. (Cecile) Hutchins of Gastonia, N.C., Mrs. Sam (Beth) Wooten of Lowrys and Mrs. Noel (Viki) Burke of Neeses; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Bill (Lynn) Haney of Gastonia, N.C., Mrs. Hunter (Carla) Stubbs of Asheville, N.C., Jamie Wooten of Chester, Tripp Wingard of Lexington, Daniel Flake, Josh Wingard of Neeses and Mrs. Benji (Lori) Kuck of Cope; and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria Dempsey of Columbia. Mrs. Bonnette was the widow of Cecil H. Bonnette and predeceased by a daughter, Carol Sue Edwards and granddaughter, Priss Wooten Fox. Family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, at Pine Hill United Methodist Church. At other times friends may call at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. Noel Burke, 2224 Slab Landing Road, Pine Hill Community. Memorials may be made to Pine Hill United Methodist Church, 2224 Slab Landing Road, Neeses, SC 29107.
