China Rothmund, a shar-pei mix, was the family pet for 14 yrs. China was 1 of six pups born to Dotty, our sons dog. At first, we thought China was a male, and named her "Alf". After several months we noticed a difference, and renamed her "China". We nicknamed her "Chinadot" as she had so many of her mother Dotty's traits and habits. She was a sweetheart, loving, affectionate, smart, comical, and loved her nightly walks. When she had surgery done on her eyelids to keep them up, she came home with blue eyelashes, it was the sutures extending out, and looked so cute! Most shar-pei's have this procedure done. She learned to blink on command. She allowed the family cats to groom her. She learned many tricks along the way including holding her back leg straight out until she was told to place it down again. She would lie near the counter, to get any food we would give her during our meals. Her favorite place to nap was in the doorway to the computer room, where her photo hangs today. On her birthday each year, she would get a whole steak to eat. China was frightened of thunder storms and fireworks, her only weakness. We had to give her lots of comfort during these times. Can't say enough about our beloved pet. China had to be put to sleep the day before her 14th birthday. She had liver failure, and held up until the last 2 days of her life. She is sadly missed by all.
