Daughter of Mary Tutor Ross and Gabriel Ross of Madison County, Kentucky.

Wife of James D. Byrum, married March 29, 1847 in Madison County, Kentucky.

By 1850, Lyddia and her husband removed from Kentucky to Arkansas where they made their home at Jenny Lind, a part of Crawford County until Sebastian County was formed. James was engaged in farming.

Lyddia and James had at least thirteen children: Jessie, Irena, Catharine, James, Elisabeth, Mary, Sarah, Lina, Anna, William, Harvey, Georgiana and Venetta Byrum.

During this period of time, the Civil War began. Sebastian County was not only a source of conflict but a location for building troops. James served the Union in Company E of the Arkansas 1st Infantry Regiment. He also served the Confederacy in the 35th Regiment of the Arkansas Infantry. In his absence, Lyddia was left to manage the family and household. The war ended in 1865. Her husband's rank with both sides was Private.

Lyddia died in 1891 leaving James a widower. At the 1900 Census he was enumerated as head of household with a daughter, son, and two grandchildren.
