Elizabeth A. (Betty) Burge, 68 of Leavenworth passed away peacefully at her residence on July 26th.. 2008
Elizabeth A. (Betty) Ross Burge was born on April 16th, 1940 in Leavenworth, Kansas the daughter of John and Virginia Hageman Ross. Betty attended schools in Leavenworth and was married in 1955 to Kenneth L. Burge, Sr., of Atchison, Kansas
Betty was an active wife and mother. She had worked for the Leavenworth
Public schools system and at Cushing Memorial Hospital. Betty shared the skills she learned at Cushing in housekeeping by cleaning the homes of friends and loved ones. She was very innovative and enjoyed crafts of all kinds. She also volunteered her time and love to the Leavenworth Hospice and to Cushing Memorial Hospital.
Her first love however, was always her family. Betty once said that at the age of 15 years old all she wanted to do was be a wife and a mother. Her husband and children fulfilled that dream for her.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth, Sr., two sons; Kenneth L. Jr, and his wife Donna of Leavenworth, and Roland E. and his wife Allison of Lansing,, two daughters; Deborah L. Clauser and her husband Donald of Leavenworth, and Cheryl A. Burroughs and her husband Fred of Weatherby, Missouri. One daughter-in-law, Susan Burge Leavenworth, one sister, Patricia Judson of Leavenworth, and a sister-in-law Jean Ross of Atchison, Kansas. Nine Grand-children, 4 great grand children, a very special cousin Mary Anne Finnell, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and assorted granpets.
She was preceded in death by one son Ronald A. (Tony) Burge, three brothers, Robert E, John V. Jr, and Verlin L. Ross.
Betty will be sorely missed not only by her loving family but also by the many people she felt lucky enough to have known. She spent her life thinking of others first. She was always the first to offer help and the last to ask for it. Betty gladly gave her time, energy, love, and compassion to anyone who needed it. Heaven is a better place now that she is in it.
Pallbearers will be Richard Brown, Kenneth L. Burge III, Chad Clauser, William Burroughs, Matthew Burge, Zachary Burge, and Blake Burge
