Bernice A. Biggs, 76, a longtime Manhattan resident, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Valley View Nursing Home.
She was born June 13, 1925, in Hays to Edward John and Mathilda Cecelia (Meier) Ross. She grew up in Hays and was a 1943 graduate of the Girls Catholic High School.
She married John N. Biggs on Jan. 24, 1945, in Kansas City, Mo. He died Oct. 30,1993. She lived in Abilene for several years before moving to Manhattan in 1958. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at Kansas State University for more than 26 years. She was a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for many years and was a member of the Altar Society.
Survivors include three sons, Michael N., Ashburn, Va., John P., Leawood, and Chris, Junction City; two daughters, Suzanne Knorr, Manhattan, and, Kathleen "Kitty" A. Barclay, Prairie Village; three sisters, Helen Jacobs, Overland Park, Eileen Smith, Ames, Iowa, and Mary Ross, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Smith and Kay Kraemer.
