Margaret ‘Louise' Taff
93; of Charlestown

Funeral services for Margaret "Louise" Taff, 93, of Charlestown, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, with burial in the Charlestown Cemetery. She died at her home on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011.

She was born Oct. 15, 1917, to Lawrence and Marguerite Ross, in Clark County. She was the third of five children. She was a gifted singer, doing much solo work as a young woman and in her church choir at First United Methodist Church in Charlestown. She taught Sunday school for many years, was active in UMW Circle and held many church positions through the years. She was a member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. She had a sweet, patient, and generous nature coupled with great business acumen. During World War II she worked at the Charlestown Bank as a teller and bought and fixed up old homes. When Taff returned from Naval Service, they developed Taff's Gas Service, where she worked in sales and bookkeeping through the 1970's. She was an avid gardener and baker who enjoyed sharing her flowers, produce, and pies. Her priorities were her faith in Jesus Christ, her family, and her friends. One of the "Great Generation," she will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

Survivors include her sons, Gerry Taff and his wife, Nellie Kay, of Jeffersonville, and Tom Taff and his wife, Marti, of Dallas; daughter, Mary Cook and her husband, Tom, of Fairfield, Tenn.; sister, Betty Cleeter and her husband, Dr. Paul, of Plymouth; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ross, of Charlestown; grandchildren, Kevin Taff and his wife, Talaina, Julie Thompson and her husband, Jeff, Crisite Haire and her husband, Travis, Tracy Cook, and Annette DeWitt and her husband, Dr. John; great-grandchildren, Kayla Taff, Candace Thompson, Caroline Roth and her husband, Derek, Victoria Haire, Stephen and Rachel DeWitt.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Kynard L. Taff, who passed away Aug. 24, 2009; and her son, Billy Taff.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, and after 9 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 423 Main Cross, Charlestown, 47111, or the Muscular Dystrophy Fund.
