Professional Basketball Player. As a member of the New York Knicks, he participated in the first-ever NBA game. Raised in Brooklyn, he attended Boys High School and the City College of New York (CCNY) and served in the US Navy during World War II prior to turning professional. He was part of the squad when the Knicks visited the Toronto Huskies on November 1, 1946, for what the NBA considers its initial contest. Rosenstein scored five points that night and was to play in 31 games, with a 4.3 points per game average, before being traded to the Providence Steamrollers. Leaving for the American Basketball League after one season, he spent five years with the Scranton Miners, helping them capture two league titles. He later coached at the semiprofessional level in the Eastern League and was inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1998 and into the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007. He retired to Florida where he died of heart failure. (bio by: Bob Hufford)
