Evelyn Louise Hodges, 90, of Seneca, died Tuesday evening, July 24, 2007 at Crestview Manor in Seneca, where she had been a resident since July 2004.
Evelyn was born on September 14, 1916 in Seneca, the daughter of Edward C. and Cecil Nash Rosengarten. She attended Sts. Peter and Paul Schools and graduated from high school in 1935.
On June 13, 1937, she married Harold W. "Sonny" Hodges at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Seneca. The couple was married 57 years before Harold's death on October 23, 1994. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1987.
Evelyn enjoyed many years as a homemaker, then in the late 1950's she went to work at the Seneca Courier-Tribune in the advertising department. She also did proofreading for the Courier until she retired in 2003.
Evelyn was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and the Quilter Group at the church. She also quilted with the Quilting Group at the United Methodist Church. Evelyn also enjoyed being outside in the yard with her flowers. She and her husband belonged to bowling leagues and enjoyed traveling around the county to bowl with their friends. Evelyn also loved to bake, especially sweets.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia "Patty" Greene of Longwood, FL; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister Alice Owens of Hiawatha. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Charles on February 1, 1995; and siblings Walter, Marie Smith, Mary Ellen Schoenberger, Betty Noble, and Faye Jeanneret.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Saturday, July 27, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetary.
