Logan-A 5-year-old Ogden boy lost his life in the swift currents of the Logan River here Sunday afternoon. The body of Brent Dee Rose, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Rose, 339 Healy, Ogden, was found in about two feet water, his sweatshirt snagged on a rock, about 5:15 p.m. The victim was found one half mile below the Bridger picnic area where the family had camped. Cache County physician Dr. Merrill Daines said this morning the cause of death was "probably drowning." There were bumps on his head and legs that could be attributed to the swift current and boulders in the stream, the doctor said. The child had been the object of a general search since 1 p.m. Sunday when the family notified the sheriff that the boy was lost. Some 50 persons turned out from the Cache County Sheriff Department and Jeep Patrol, the Utah State Mountaineering Club, the Forest Service and State Fish and Game Department. The boy had taken a stick and gone for a hike about 11 a.m., officers said. The large scale search was called off when Larry Ashliman, member of the Jeep Patrol who was searching along the banks of the river, spotted the body. He wrapped it in a blanket with the help of several other searchers and it was taken from the canyon by automobile. Mrs. Rose collapsed on learning that her son was dead and required treatment by a Logan physician.
