She was the matriarch of one of Fayetteville's most influential political families. Mrs. Rose was the wife of the late Charles G. Rose Jr., a lawyer, former Fayetteville mayor and state representative. She is the mother of former U.S. Rep. Charles Rose III, who represented the 7th District for 24 years. She was a typical Southern lady with a lot of high standards to live by. She knew how to take an adverse incident and turn it around for good. Mrs. Rose was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She was also involved in Daughters of the American Revolution, the Fayetteville Garden Club and the Highland Book Club. Mrs. Rose was born to Spann Lamar Duckworth and Alice Watson Duckworth, the youngest of seven children. She attended Kernersville High School and Salem College in Winston-Salem. She is survived by her sons, Charles III and the Rev. William Frederick Rose; a daughter, Irene R. Owen. Mrs. Rose died at Carolina Suites at Village Green at age 90.
