Harold Ivan Roquet, 86, of Ottumwa, formerly of Hedrick, died March 10, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

He was born Feb. 5, 1926, in rural Hedrick, the son of Glenn and Hazel Triplett Roquet. On Aug. 15, 1945, he was united in marriage to Virginia Ann Catcott at the Union Chapel east of Fremont, and she died Nov. 16, 2005. He was later united in marriage to Gladys Anderson McDowell on July 4, 2007, at Ames.

He graduated from the Fremont High School with the class of 1943. He farmed his entire life in the Fremont and Hedrick area, and it truly was his passion. He was very anxious to start the 2012 crop. In his early years, he was very involved in showing purebred Angus cattle. When he wasn't farming, he enjoyed carpentry. He also enjoyed spending time with his cows and deer and pheasant hunting. Harold delighted in the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with his friends at the condo, especially at Wednesday night game nights. He was a member of the Union Chapel Christian Union Church and served on various boards and committees on the local, state and national levels of the Christian Union. He also served on the Jericho Hills Camopground in Lucas. Harold was an active member of the Keokuk county Cattleman's Association and Keokuk Farm Bureau.

Harold is survived by his wife, Gladys Roquet of Ottumwa; a daughter, Leann(Gary)Little of Houston, Texas; a son, Ivan(Karen)Roquet of Hedrick; a stepson, Mark McDowell of Fort Collins, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Marcia McDowell of Ames and Linda McDowell of Fort Collins, Colo.; six grandchildren, Matthew(Emily)Little of Columbus, Ohio, Amy(Rob)Koon of Macclenny, Fla., Andrew(Amanda)Little of Lake Charles, La., Michael Little of Gardenerville, Nev., Sabrina(Bub)Knapp of Ottumwa and Eric(Katie)Roquet of Muscatine; two stepgrandchildren, Stephanie Pollard of Des Moines and Stacie Little of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren, Claire, Paige and Brooke Little, Brendon and Brylan Little, Karter Koon and Annie Knapp; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Austin and Madison Knapp; a brother, Gerald(Joann)Roquet of Hedrick; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Virginia Roquet.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am today at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont; with Revs. Harold McElwee and Chuck Whitmier officiating. Burial will be in the Abel Cemetery east of Fremont. Memorials may be made to the Hedrick Fire Department, Carl Kraft Commuunity Center in Hedrick or the American Cancer Society.
