Unknown Newspaper obituary
Charles Roquet, retired farmer and well known resident of this community, died at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at his home on North Lincoln Avenue. For the past year the burden of his 91 years had weighed him heavily, and he succumbed after a long period of weakness.
He was born in Darmstadt, Germany November 13, 1838. As a lad of 12 he crossed to America with his parents, landing at New Orleans after a 41 day voyage. After she had been in this county a short time the mother died and the son early manifested the sturdy reliance that stood him well in later life.
His marriage to Mary Mader took place in Noblesville, Indiana, November 19,1864. They came west to Kansas and located in this county, first on a farm south of Beloit and later in Plum Creek Township. Mr. Roquet was actively engaged in farming until 1910 when he removed to town, two years after his wife's death. He understood the soil and was successful at his vocation. He was esteemed as a friend and neighbor and is mourned as an upright man.
He is survived by three children, eight grandchildren and two great-grand children. The children are Wade Hampton Roquet, Miss Minnie Roquet and Harry Duane Roquet. A brother, Louis lives at Fremont, Iowa. The father and daughter shared their home, with a strong bond of companionship bonding them.
The funeral services will be held at the residence, 418 N Lincoln Avenue in Beloit, Kansas at 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon. The Christian Science ritual will be used with W. B. Springer as reader. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
