Lavina (Ropp) Mannenbach, 86, of Portland, formerly of Albany, died Friday.
She was born in Albany. As a young child she lived on a farm with her parents, Joel and Barbara Ropp, in Shedd. She had two brothers and one sister, all who preceded her in death.
Lavina met Jerome "Jerry" Frederick Mannenbach at Camp Adair during World War II. After the war, they married and lived a short time in Wisconsin. Subsequently, they moved back to Oregon and lived in Eugene, Albany, Newberg and Woodburn. After retirement, they lived in Dallas and then later lived in care facilities in Madras and Portland. Jerry preceded Lavina in death on Nov. 7, 2002. They had been married 57 years at his death.
Lavina was a homemaker and created a loving and welcoming home environment for her children, family and friends.
Lavina was an unbelievably great cook and has a "green thumb." She could make anything grow well. She loved her family deeply and found it hard not to be surrounded by friends and family. Lavina was deeply religious and participated in numerous Bible study groups throughout her life. She enjoyed family gatherings and attended innumerable special events relating to her grandchildren.
She is survived by children Barbara Kurtz-Mannenbach and husband Charlie of Powell Butte, Steven Mannenbach and wife Shirley of Dallas, Anne Neilson and husband George of Madras, Jerome Mannenbach and wife Carmel of Milwaukie, Thomas Mannenbach and wife Linda of Cloverdale, James Mannenbach and wife Kelly of Eagle Point, Janis Mannenbach-Hamling and husband Joe of Albany, and John Mannenbach and wife Molly of Portland; 28 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren (at last count).
She was preceded in death by daughter Kathleen, who died as a youth; and one grandchild.
A service was held Monday in Woodburn. Memorial contributions may be made to Martha & Mary Ministries in Portland.
Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Woodburn is handling arrangements.
