David Edwin Ropp, 63, died peacefully at his home with his loving family at his side on Feb. 3, 2011.
He was born Aug. 8, 1947 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton, and was escorted home to neighboring Worthington by fire truck, arranged by his very proud father, Eddie Ropp, who died in 1989. Following an idyllic childhood in rural southern Indiana, Dave graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in Business and was immediately drafted into the Army. A gentle soul who hated war, he nevertheless served his tour of duty in Vietnam.
Thirty-two years ago he married his beloved wife and sweetheart Patricia. With their young family, Adam, Andrew and Mary, they moved to Hulls Cove, Maine in 1987 and opened a shop in Bar Harbor, where they worked together.
Dave was a quiet man, with quiet ways, a loving father, devoted husband, and caring son-in-law to Mary Mill. His home, his family, and his pets were his joy.
A great deal of excitement and preparations for a mid-summer wedding between son Andrew and his lovely fiancee Kristina Agustin, have been in the works and Dave was eagerly planning his part.
In addition to his wife and children, David continues to live on through his wonderful and quite remarkable mother, Mary S. Ropp who, at 99, lives in the family home in Worthington; his dear sister Celia and brother-in-law Dallas Fines also of Worthington, niece Cynthia Jones, her husband Brad and their daughter Elliott, all of Angola, IN.
His many dear friends will remember David as he has always been: funny, gentle, and kind.
His ashes will be where his heart lies, in Worthington and Hulls Cove. A memorial service will be held in Worthington in the spring.
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night.
