St. George - Mrs. Helen Roper Allen, age 78, quietly returned to her Heavenly Father, Friday, January 19. She was born Jan 31, 1928 in Thatcher, Idaho to Simpson and Ethel Brown Roper, the 6th of 7 children. She married J.L. Allen in the Salt Lake Temple on August 15, 1947. J.L. and Helen began their married life in Grace, Idaho, spending much of their time working a dairy farm. In later years they moved to Big Piney, Wyoming, where he was the owner of Allen Farm Equipment for many years, retiring to live in St. George, Utah.
She was a person who was blessed with many talents, playing the piano by ear and being able to write a poem or song about almost any topic were among them. She loved being in her home and made it so others enjoyed being there as well. She was a gifted homemaker, spending many hours canning, cooking, cleaning and working to make her yard and garden a pleasing place to be. She enjoyed her many callings in her church and served many with a loving heart.
She devoted her life to her husband and family. Her children are Larry R. Allen (Judy), Big Piney, Wyoming, Kaye Allen Watkins (Will), Edinburg, Texas, Lisa Allen Parker (Jeff), St. George, Utah, Heidi Allen Russell, Kennewick, Washington, and Debra Allen Moffat (Chris) of Big Piney, Wyoming. She is survived by 23 grandchildren who loved her dearly: Brandi, Duane, Tiffy, and Angie Allen. Adam, Amber, Seth, Jodi Watkins, Jenny, Becky, Holly, Nicki, Dustin, Jamie, Michelle Parker, Jade, Magen, Nathan, Kason Russell, and Jeromy, Amy, Mandy and Bret Moffat. She also is survived by 21 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a beloved brother, Orson (Colleen) Roper, St. George, Utah.
A viewing is planned for Thursday, Jan. 25, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Metcalf Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the Williams Ward LDS church in Niter, Idaho, Saturday, Jan. 27th at 11:00 am., with a viewing one hour prior to services. The interment will be at the Grace Cemetery.
She was a woman who loved and in return was loved by those who knew her. Her family is comforted by the knowledge that she is again with those loved ones who preceded her and by the many loving memories she has left us. We will all miss her.
