Edward Roos, 71 of near Ashton died of a lingering illness Saturday, May 22. He was born in Pecatonica, Illinois and came to Sioux County with his parents when he was a young man. In 1895 he was married to Dena Fonkert of Newkirk who survives him. To this union 8 children were born, 2 of whom preceded him in death. Jessie, who died in the year 1928 and a son, who died in infancy several years ago. The children living are Dick of Ashton, Peter of Alton, Nellie - Mrs. Stuart Vander Schaaf of Hudson, South Dakota, Edward of Alton, Dena - Mrs. Henry Ver Doorn of Alton, Anna - Mrs. Hubert Muilenburg of Orange City. There are 22 grandchildren. Surviving also are 1 brother and 3 sisters, namely Dick Roos of Orange City, Mrs. John Van Es of Alton, Mrs. Gt. Van Es of Orange City and a half sister, Mrs. Jake Vander Maaten of Sacramento, California. 1 brother, Arie Roos died several years ago.

The family lived in the Newkirk and Orange City vicinity except for the past few years when Mr. and Mrs. Roos lived with their son, Dick at Ashton. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon. Interment was made in the Newkirk Cemetery.
