She was a native of Spartanburg County. Mrs. Rookard was a retired educator. Mrs. Rookard was a graduate of Morris College, Sumter, S.C., Chicago University and Atlanta University. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday School.
Survivors include a dedicated niece, Candesee Jones of Spartanburg, S.C.; and several other nieces and nephews; a devoted caregiver, Mary Alice Bomar of Wellford, S.C.; a devoted friend, Jessie Mae Watson of Spartanburg, S.C.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the Upper Shady Grove Baptist Church. Reverend James Brewton will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the church.
