Birth: Aug. 24, 1853
Illinois, USA
Death: Jun. 21, 1929
Indiana, USA

Sarah C. BRITTON was born in Kentucky,(Family records show she was born in ILL) August 24, 1853, and departed this life June 21, 1929, having attained the age of seventy-five years, nine months, and twenty-one days. She was united in marriage September 30, 1874 to Thomas C. BRITTON, who preceded her in death January 13, 1929. To this union were born ten children, three of whom have preceded her in death, namely Clara, Claudie and one infant daughter. She leaves to mourn their loss seven children, namely: Gus BRITTON, of Laton, California; Mel and Troy BRITTON, of Freeman; Vina FOWLER, Paul and Earl BRITTON, of Solsberry, and Roy BRITTON, of Cotton Valley, Louisiana; twenty-seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also three brothers and four sisters, namely William and Ed ROGERS, of Terre Haute; Charles, of Jasonville, Cancie BARNHART, of Center Point; Lillie JOHNSON of Jasonville; Lew PARR, of Hymera, and Laura SHADWELL, of Effingham, Illinois. She was the oldest of eleven children.

She united with the congregation at Headingís Chapel M. E. Church when a young girl and often spoke of Christianity; but on account of affliction for possibly forty years she was debarred from attending Godís service, yet she bore her affliction with patience and often said that she hoped to gain a better home above this for she had suffered so much here.

She was so kind to all who met with her, especially a loving wife and mother. She often spoke of her husband and children, and was so much interested in seeing them do good. She was always glad to see anyone come to her home. God in his mercy has seen fit to take her from us. We grieve to give her up, yet we will not question why God called this dear one from us. But let us try to meet her in that beautiful home of God that she spoke of and that she desired to go to, where suffering is not known. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ellis, of Solsberry, at the family home on last Sunday. Interment in Riverside cemetery at Spencer.
