ADKINS, Martha Jean Rogers, 67, born in Pulaski, Va. and Tampa resident since 1978, departed this life July 22, 2006. Martha leaves a loving and tirelessly devoted husband, Alexander J. Adkins, Jr.; a son, Randal (Mona) Adkins of Brandon; and daughter and son-in-law, Monica Adkins Wilson and Reginald Wilson; three extraordinary grandchildren, Reginald II, Brandon and Karina Lynn, all of Tampa; two sister-in-laws, Carrie (Adkins) Jones of Parrish, Fla.; and Erma (Adkins) Ingram, of Reading, Pa.; two nephews, T. Christopher Ingram and Kolster L. (Jasmine) Jones, Jr.; two nieces, Myra (Joe) Headen and Anita B. Jones; dedicated friends, Winifred Gilmore, Camilla Janey, Herb and Brenda Waldron and Adrienne Decker; an extended family at St. Petersburg College, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In 1961, Martha graduated from Virginia State University with a degree in business education. She later earned a Masters degree in Human Services from Boston University. She taught in Virginia, Washington D.C., Germany, Tampa, and at St. Petersburg College (SPC) for 25 years. Her last position was program director of business technologies, retiring September 30, 2005. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Village Presbyterian Church, Tampa, with the Rev. Jim Yearsly officiating. Burial will take place at Florida National Cemetery. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and PCT's from the Cancer Institute at St. Joseph's hospital for their wonderful care. We would especially like to thank Dr. Kathleen Kilbride, Dr. Sylvia Campbell, Dr. David Wright and the nurses, aides and staff at the Melech Hospice House for placing 'the person before the illness.'
