"MRS. J. E. TOMBLIN DIED OF OLD AGE: Highly Respected Pioneer Resident of Muscogee County Died Friday Night. // Mrs. J. E. TOMBLIN, residing nine miles east of Columbus, in Muscogee county, died Friday night at 8 o'clock at her home. She was about 85 years of age and had been confined to her bed for nearly two years, her death being caused by old age. Her husband, Mr. George Washington TOMBLIN, has been dead for many years and she has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Matilda SPURLIN and grandson, Ellwood TOMBLIN. // Mrs. TOMBLIN is survived by ten children, they being Messrs. W. R., F. B., Ed, George, Joseph, John, James and . L.; Mrs. Matilda SPURLING and Mrs. Tobe JONES. Several children died in infancy. The funeral of Mrs. TOMBLIN will be held today from her home, which was the original homestead, and burial will be at Providence burial ground, seven miles from Columbus. Mrs. TOMBLIN was a devoted member of the Baptist church and had done much charitable work during her long lifetime." [Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, Sunday, 21 NOV 1909, p. 3.]

TOMBLIN (aged 27 years, born Walton County, Georgia), and children (all born in Muscogee County): Mary A. E. (aged 5 years), Matilda Ann (aged 3 years) and S. Izabell (aged 2 years).

She appears as a widow, Ella J. TOMLIN, aged 72 years, born April 1828 in Georgia (both parents born in South Carolina), having borne 13 children, 10 of whom were still living at the time, in the household of grandson Richard SPURLIN on the 1900 census of Georgia Militia District #1182 (Edwards District) in Muscogee County, Georgia.
