The body of Clark Rogers, 24, 210 Ball Ave., was found along the northbank of the Mississinewa River Monday morning by a Muncie Civil Defense unit after an intensive two day search along a five mile stretch of the stream. Rogers was found about a mile downstream from where he disappeared Saturday night when his small aluminum fishing craft overturned in a wind and rain storm near Wheeling.
Scores of state police, civil defense personnel from four towns and several area residents had conducted an unsuccessful search for Clark's body before it was found by Gary Swank, Bob Kowalski and Jim Bolding of the Muncie Civil Defense unit.
The accident happened when Rogers and an uncle, Harold Rogers, 719 W. Seventh St., were returning from a fishing excursion about four miles up the river from Matthews. They were about two miles south of Matthews when their boat hit a partially submerged tree limb and overturned.
Harold Rogers swam to shore and ran to the J.P. Glass farmhouse on County Road 471 north to call for help at about 9 p.m. Saturday. The boat was found by rescue units early Sunday morning near the New Town Bridge on Ind. 221.
Rogers was born in Orange County and came to Muncie about 10 years ago. He attended McKinley Junior High and Central High School.
Surviving in addition to the wife, Marilyn Sue, are two daughters, Ruth Ann and Diana Sue; a son, Cort Edward, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Anna Rogers; a brother, William Rogers; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Watterson, all of Muncie; and his grandmother, Mrs. Dora Rogers of Orange County.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Meeks Mortuary with the Rev. Gene Ellmore officiating. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory. Friends may call at the mortuary after noon Tuesday.
