Sun Lakes, AZ., - Samuel R. Rogers, 93, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 21.
Sam was born in Windsor, Indiana to the late Charles Ambrose and Mary Opal (Friddle) Rogers. He lived in Muncie and Elwood before moving to Marion. He married the love of his life, Theda Ellen Heniser on September 8, 1940. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps. He owned and operated a gas station prior to serving in the Army. After being discharged from the Army, he began working for The Central Indiana Gas Company in Muncie, Elwood and finally in Marion. He retired as division manager in 1982. He served on the Grant County Mental Health Association and Marion General Hospital boards. Before moving to Arizona, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Marion, where he was a deacon and choir member. He enjoyed being a member of the Marion Rotarian Society for many years. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Survivors include Wife, Theda Rogers of Sun Lakes, Arizona; Sons, Richard A. Rogers (Jeanine) of Queens Creek, Arizona and Ronald J. Rogers (Paula) of Midland, Michigan; 6 grandchildren, Nicholas A. (Erin) Rogers, Dallas, Texas; Adrienne (Enrique) Elizondo, Greensboro, N. Carolina; Jonathan A. Rogers, Muncie, Indiana; Miranda (Josh) DeVries, Kissimmee, Florida; Tyler Rogers, West Lafayette, Indiana and Cameron Rogers, Queens Creek, Arizona; and one great-grandchild with three more on the way.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Aretis Rogers and two sisters, Echo Rogers & Janet Holcraft.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008, at First Baptist Church, 403 W. 4th. Street, Marion, with Reverend Tom Richards officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at the Gardens of Memory Chapel, Muncie, Indiana.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85014.
