MUNCIE--Mary Lou McLain Rogers, 87, passed away on Thursday at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Anderson, IN, to James Harrison and Ethel Verne (Webster) McLain.

Mary Lou graduated from Anderson High School in 1944. She attended Indiana University after high school, but completed her education with a teaching degree from Ball State University, graduating in 1967, a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society of Education. She worked as a Weekday Religious Education teacher and was employed at Muncie Community Schools, working as a middle school math lab assistant. However, the role she cherished most was that of wife and mother.

Mary Lou belonged to Tri Kappa Sorority and loved a good bridge game. She was a founding member of her bridge club which has been going strong since the early 1950s. She and her late husband, Joe, the love of her life, were active members of High Street United Methodist Church, and busy community volunteers. In addition to daily jokes and shenanigans, they enjoyed life to its fullest--traveling, bicycling, and playing games from ping pong to pinocle.

Surviving are her daughters, Nancy Ann Shields (husband-Murrell) of Great Falls, VA, and Beth Rogers Loveless (husband-Keith) of Seattle, WA; her five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; much beloved nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Barbara McLain; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Everett Rogers; her parents, and three brothers.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at High Street United Methodist Church. Private burial will be held on Monday in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to High Street United Methodist Church.
