Birth: Sep. 12, 1810
Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), Germany
Death: Jul. 4, 1861
Harpers Ferry
Jefferson County
West Virginia, USA

Frederick immigrated from Germany some time in the 1840's or even the 1830's the exact date isn't know to this date. He married Ann Maria Burger also a German immigrant on April 21, 1842 in Frederick Maryland. They came to Harpers Ferry where Frederick setup his Confectionery shop and opened the White Hall tavern. He also ran a store beside the tavern, both places attracted the business of the Armory works located across the street. Frederick's home is located on High Street, now the property of the park service. This is fortunate, for they have turned the home, Tavern and shop into living museums for all to see. Things were good for Frederick and his family until the John Brown trouble that resulted in the Armory shutting down and thereafter the Civil War. March of 1861 he lost his wife leaving their 7 children 2 of which were infants motherless. Frederick was a union sympathizer and on July 4, 1861 after a skirmish between the Confederates and Yanks, a drunken union soldier across the river decided he was going to kill a damn rebel so he began firing his weapon at the citizens in Harpers Ferry. He didn't realize the persons he was firing at were strong Union supporters and with all the commotion Frederick went from his home to see where the trouble was, as he stood gazing at the Stars and Strips across the river a stray bullet struck him in the abdomen and disemboweled him on the spot. He drug himself home where he died half an hour later leaving his children orphaned.
