Odessia L. Rodgers (nee Campbell), age 86, died peacefully Friday night, Jan. 25, 2013, at Alliance Community Hospital. She was born in the old, yellow brick Alliance City Hospital on March 14, 1926, to her parents, C.B. Campbell and Priscilla (Young) Campbell.

Odessia attended Riverside Elementary School in the 1930s, where a tree was planted in her honor for an all-school art contest. She was a 1944 graduate of Alliance High School. She also worked at Drake Cleaners in the 1940s and was married in 1946.

Odessia was the cherished wife of John Charles Rodgers (deceased) and the beloved mother of five children. She worked numerous jobs while raising her children. During the Korean War, Odessia worked at the Ravenna Arsenal, and in the summer, taught vacation Bible school at Franklin School in Alliance. Odessia was employed by Caskey's Motor Inn and Alliance Manufacturing Co.

Her most rewarding job was working as a certified preschool teacher at Inter-Faith Child Care Development Center, where she was loved by colleagues and children alike.

Odessia is greatly mourned by her children, Diana (Julius) Dunn of Cleveland, Karen (Michael) Stovall of Alliance, John (Anita) Rodgers II of Alliance, Denise (Douglas) Kirksey of Texas and Michele (Tony) Williams of Los Angeles, Calif. A special mention to her granddaughter, Celeste Stovall, who stayed by her side and was more like a daughter; and godson, Johnny Wallace Mallard of Texas. She is also grieved by her grandchildren, Michael Stovall, Desmon Ford, Jennifer Dunn, Ashley Williams, Ariel Williams, Erin Williams, Devan Williams, Darian Williams, Danielle Kirksey, Erika Kirksey and Latoya Scott; great-grandchildren, Miles, Dynasty, Trinity, Breann, Aliyah, Alexandria, Victoria and Mr. Youngblood. She is survived by an older sister, Mrs. Lillie Cooper of Tallahassee, Fla.

Odessia enjoyed reading mystery novels, decorating her home, listening to gospel music and cooking holiday dinners. Her favorite vacation trips were to Hawaii and Las Vegas. She was a loving, protective mother and great homemaker.

Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
