Martha Catharine Rockwell, 88, Portland, Ind., passed away Jan. 6, 2013, at her residence.

She was born in Jay County, Ind., on Oct. 11, 1925, to Fred and Lena Roser Brumm. On July 1, 1945, she married Levon Rockwell, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Vernon Rockwell, Mike Rockwell and Robert Rockwell, all of Portland; two daughters, Cindy Kasmer, Tempe, Ariz., and Lesa Rockwell, Portland; one brother, Harold Brumm, Syracuse, Ind., and one sister, Wanda Butcher, Angola, Ind.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Bricker.
She was manager of the Portland License Branch, retiring in 1988. She was a 1944 Portland High School graduate and attended Ball State Nursing School. She was a member and organist of the First Church of Christ in Fort Recovery, member of Salamonia Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Jay County Historical Society and Jay County Republican Women. The state of Indiana honored her with the Honorary Secretary of the State and Council of the Attorney General Awards.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of Christ Church in Fort Recovery, the Rev. Gary Snowden presiding.
