1931 ~ 2012
Afton Elaine Rock Crawford Prescott passed away peacefully on October 19. 2012 after battling liver cancer with the same spirit, energy, and determination that she showed throughout her life. She was born on July 9, 1931 to Alma & Jesse Le Von Rock in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Alfred Crawford in 1948 and together they had three children, Alfred, Alan and Adel. After his sudden death in 1956, she later married Donald Prescott with whom she had two more children, Geary and Gayle. She felt blessed by her six grandchildren, Mandee, Ryan, Kevin, P.J., Hannah, and Bethany, and her great granddaughter, Rylee.
Afton led a full and active life having many interests. She loved her church and her friends there and enjoyed her callings as a Den Mother and home teacher. She also loved singing in the ward choir. She served as PTA president at Morningside Elementary and worked conscientiously to help improve parent-teacher cooperation. She was always learning new things from Chinese ink painting to taking classes in Italian at the University of Utah. Her Italian came in handy when she toured Italy & Europe with Geary after his mission there. Her professional career was also varied, including such jobs as demonstrating microwave cooking for ZCMI and being a security agent at the SLC airport. After many years, she retired as a secretary for the Utah Division of Water Rights in 1995. After retirement, she then also volunteered to be an usher at Abravanel Symphony Hall and enrolled in water aerobics classes at the Holladay Rec. Center. She enjoyed the companionship of her classmates there and always looked forward to their Friday lunches.
Her positive outlook & determination while persevering through life difficulties will be sorely missed. She & her whole family want to thank Dr. Jeffrey Twitchell for his care & concern over the years and the staffs at Utah Cancer Specialists, Utah Hospice Specialists, and especially the wonderful staff at Paramount Rehabilitation for their loving care during the final months of her journey.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Olympus 2nd Ward, 3070 East Nila Way (4140 South), Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may call Monday, from 6-8 p.m. at the ward and Tuesday, one hour prior to services. Interment will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
