SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT. - Marjorie "Marj" Marie (Rock) Hayes, age 96, of South Burlington, passed away on January 17th 2012 at the Starr Farm Nursing Home in Burlington, Vt.
Marj was born on March 24th 1915 in Vergennes, Vt., she was the daughter of Lavender R. and Phyllis (Signor) Rock.
Marj attended Vergennes schools and at the age of 16 started working at Fishmann's Store in Vergennes, Vt.
On February 20th 1945, Marj married the love of her life; Robert M. Hayes at the Robinson House, now known as the Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh, Vermont. They shared 48 wonderful years together before Bob's passing in 1993.
From 1958-1966, she worked at Gaynes Dept. Store and later baby-sat children for many families.
She spent many years volunteering at Starr Farm Nursing Center and The Knight's of Columbus Saint John Vianney Council #7525.
Marj was a member of St. John Vianney Parish in South Burlington since 1956 assisting at special events.
Marj loved to sew, cook and camp with family and the Holiday Rambler Travel Trailer Club.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; Robert Hayes, one son-in-law; Dwight Churchill, one brother; Royal Rock, one sister-in-law; Jean Sullivan, one brother-in-law; William Alfred Hayes and his wife; Andrea.
