Dorothy was a Caro High School graduate. The former Dorothy Roblin was united in marriage with Herbert Campbell in 1944 at North Branch. They spent their early life in the Detroit area and then purchased and ran a trailer park in Rothbury. The Campbell's moved to their farm in Custer in 1972. Her family grew up in the Ellington Church of the Nazarene and they played the violin for services. From 1957, until they moved to Rothbury, she was employed as a cook. She enjoyed gardening and canning and furnishing the family with food from the farm which was a hub of family activity.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert; their surviving five children, Lawrence (Stephanie) Campbell of Dearborn, Leona (David) Krause of Romulus, Herbert Campbell II of Bay City, Lamar Campbell of Garden City, Gerald Campbell of Wayne; seven grandchildren, Mark (Amy) Campbell of Dearborn, Eric (Julie) Campbell of Austin, Texas, Kellie (Mike) Foco of Hudsonville, Herbert (Nicole) Campbell III of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Amy Campbell and Simon of Bay City, Loren Campbell of Bay City, Sean Krause of Romulus; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Gary; four sisters, Leona Roblin, Helen Klea, Eleanor Steffen and Gladys Schuch; one brother, William Roblin; a grandson, Gary Campbell; and Lamar's cherished wife, Shelly Campbell, who recently died.
The funeral service was held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Comfort officiating.
Burial was at Almer Township Cemetery.
