Maurine R. Lay (1917 - 2011)
Maurine R. Lay, 94, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011. Graveside service: A private service was held Wednesday in Laurel Land Memorial Park. The Rev. David Griffin officiated. Memorials: Mrs. Lay's memory may be honored with a gift to a charity of choice.
Maurine Roberts Lay was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Teague to the late Joe Bob and Madell Roberts. Soon after, the family moved to Fort Worth, where she graduated from Polytechnic High School. She married Carl F. Lay on April 12, 1941, and devoted her life to being a wife, mother and homemaker. Maurine was known as the anchor of her family on whom everyone depended. She was a longtime member of University United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. The family would like to sincerely thank Carolyn Cook, her assistant in recent years, and Ms. Joy McQuaid, caretaker. Maurine was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Carl F. Lay; brother, Leonard Roberts; sister, Jo Blackwell; niece, Bobbie Nelle Roberts Crum; longtime family friends, Dewey and Kathryn Johnston of Fort Worth; and childhood friend, Marjorie Lee Miles.
Survivors: Son, Christopher Lay of Arlington, Virginia; nieces, Billie Dorris and Len Baird of Fort Worth; nephews, Carey Blackwell of Witter, Ark., and Jay Blackwell of Fort Worth; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
