Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, May 27 2003 - Dorothy Estella Roberts was born November 8, 1918, at the home in the Fields Creek community, the daughter of William Dangerfield and Stella (Harris) Meredith. She departed this life Friday, April 25, 2003, at the Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton. Dorothy attended Fields Creek Elementary School and Clinton High School. She was united in marriage with Howard Ellis Roberts on November 18, 1936, in Clinton. The marriage lasted 66 years until Dorothy's death. They made their first home in Clinton and soon thereafter they established their home and farm west of Clinton and have lived there since. The marriage produced three daughters, Gayle, Lorraine and Myra. Dorothy led a very active life. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Her cooking skills were best demonstrated by her pecan pie recipe she often prepared for family and friends, which she handed down to Lorraine. She was involved in community activities including serving as a 4-H leader teaching sewing, PTA membership and served on the Henry County Health Board during its early years. She was an avid and skilled seamstress. Her many projects included making horse show riding suits for Gayle and Myra. The burial dress Dorothy wore was designed and made by herself in about 1975 for use in showing hackney ponies. Dorothy was actively involved in breeding and showing American Saddlebred horses in partnership with Howard. She specialized in showing harness horses and hackney ponies. For a period of time she was involved in manufacturing and selling purses and handbags, most with horse-related illustrations or themes. In her youth, Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton. Dorothy enjoyed many things in life, most notable her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a fan of the Kansas City Royals baseball team and the Missouri University Tigers basketball team. Her favorite television program was "The Wheel of Fortune". Dorothy was the last surviving member of the Meredith family siblings and was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters as well as her parents and grandparents. Survivors include her husband Howard Roberts; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gaylee Johnson and husband Don, Omaha, Nebraska, Lorraine Jacobs and husband Hobart, Belton, and Myra Finks and husband Terry, Clinton; five grandchildren, Barbara Johnson, Scott Johnson, Pam Wilson, Mike Jacobs and Eric Finks; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 29, at the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton with interment in the Englewood Cemetery in Clinton.
