Donna Mae, the second child and only daughter of Mr and Mrs Loren Roberson, was born November 23, 1932 on the home farm seven miles north of Burr Oak, Kansas. Her earthly life ended unexpectedly May 12, 1988 at 55 years of age while working with her husband on a construction site.
Donna grew up on the Roberson farm north of Burr Oak and attended the Wesley Center Wesleyan Church for most of her life until the Wesley Center Church closed at which time she joined the Northbranch Friends Church along with her husband, Earl. Her Christian life style was an example to all who knew her.
She graduated from Miltonvale Wesleyan Academy in 1950. When attending the Academy, she met Earl Buckley and they were united in marriage January 14, 1951. After several moves while Earl was in the navy, they settled on a farm 1 1/2 miles west of her birthplace where they completed their 37 years of marriage.
Their home was blessed with five children who were raised with a Godly vision of a mother's calling.
Throughout her life she showed consistent dedication to her home, family and church. She willingly served wherever she was needed and filled offices such as: Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Missionary Society President and various other church offices. She was also active in the community working in Hospice and on the Jewell County Historical Society Board as well as serving as Gideons Auxiliary President and Farm Bureau County Chairwoman. She was recently named Kansas Farm Bureau Women's Leader of the Year. Donna was also involved in numerous other church and community activities.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and other children, working with her husband, music, horses, driving a wheat truck, working out of doors, playing rook with neighbors and friends, counted cross stitch, working cross-word puzzles and spending time with her aunts. You could also find Donna with a tear in her eye while reading a good book or watching a good movie on television.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Earl, daughter Pam and husband Bob of Burr Oak. daughter Sherry and husband Royce of Joplin, Missouri, sons Randy of Burr Oak, Ron of Aurora, Colorado and Roger of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Five grandchildren, Gerit and Gavin Garman; Shane, Becky and Dan Willerton.
Three brothers, Beryl Roberson and wife Rita of Burr Oak, Arlen Roberson and wife Linda of Wichita, and Delmar Roberson and wife Virginia of Beloit.
Sharing their bereavement are nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial services were held at Northbranch Friends Church on May 16, 1988 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev Lester Snyder of Northbranch and Rev George Beals of Bartlesville, Oklahoma offficiating. Music was furnished by Rosetta Jeffery, Lonnie Diehl, Becky McNichols and Judy Jeffery Pierce. Interment services were at the Burr Oak Cemetery and were officiated by Rev Roy Willerton and Rev Lester Snyder.
Pallbearers were Curtis Jeffery, Kermit Jeffery, Ardean Jeffery, Earl Winslow, Jerry Harris and Norman Smuck. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Billenwillms, Maurice Jeffery, Herb Jeffery, Don Diehl, Lawrence Wilson, Glenn Wallace, Glen Warner and Don McLean.
Memorial funds went to the Gideons International and the Northbranch Friends Church.
