Jane Hammond, age 80, a Henderson resident for most of her life, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home.

Jane graduated from Barrett High School in Henderson County. Jane enjoyed teaching the 1st and the 3rd grades. She furthered her education in the 1960's by getting her Master's Degree in Education. She continued, still, with higher education ultimately attaining a degree as a Librarian. She was very proud to work as a Librarian with the Henderson County School System.

Mrs. Hammond was a founding member of Community Baptist Church here in Henderson. She enjoyed landscaping and gardening even until last year. You may have seen Jane in the paper for another favorite hobby, though. She once caught a huge catfish on a fishing trip. On a more relaxed day, she enjoyed staying in and working on her latest cross stitching project.

Mrs. Jane Hammond was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Lida Gibson Robards, her husband, Jack Hammond, a sister, Rebecca Connelly and four brothers: Austin, James, Billy and Henry Robards.

Surviving Mrs. Hammond are her son and daughter in law, Audie and Becky Hammond of Henderson, her daughter, Julie Russell of Newburgh, grandchildren: Mike Russell of Henderson, Katie Knight and her husband Kurt of Newburgh, Jenny Kemp and her husband Austin of Henderson, Elizabeth Hammond of Louisville. Also surviving Mrs. Hammond are her four Great Grandchildren: Brayden Daughtery, Lillie and Alli Knight, and Isaiah Kemp.
