He was appointed Magistrate of Jefferson County, Ark, and later served in the same capacity at Pulaski Co, Ark. War of 1812- James was in the battle of New Orleans on Jan 8, 1815. It is not known if he was in the Army of TN Vol under Andrew Jackson or whether he was with the pirate, Lafitte. He was born 1795 and d. Aug 4, 1858. In the autumn of 1823 James met a young girl, Ketorah Moseley, who lived on a neighboring farm in Wilson Co, TN. She fell in love with him during their courtship and they had an affair. They were never married. Ketorah had a son on July 22, 1824 named James. In the meantime, James had gone to North Louisana. He met a very nice talented young lady and this time he fell in love. He and Mary St. Clair Stowe were married on Oct. 24, 1824. James went back to Tenn for a visit and saw his son. In order to help the Moseley family he bought for them a farm of 80 acres in Pulaski Co, Ark. The Moseley family ignored this gift and in 1828 moved to Washington Co, Illinois. James heard the family was moving and hurried to see his son in Illinois. In 1832 James brought his illegitimate son to Louisiana. At this time the boy was known as James Moseley and was about 8 yrs. old. James sent word to the Moseleys that he would finish raising his son who became known as James Madison Roane.
