Born in Uxbridge, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Bigelow) Rivet.
Ruth worked for many years for the former Valliere Oil Company of Harrisville. She was a former CCD teacher and a member of the Rosary & Altar Society of St. Joseph's Church, Pascoag. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick's Church, Harrisville and was certified with the Diocesan Ministry from the Dioceses of Providence.
Besides her husband James she is survived by two sons, James E. Carter Sr. of Klamath Falls, OR, David J. Carter of North Waterboro, ME, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Charles and Jack Rivet
