William Thomas 'Tom' Rives, passed away on June 12, 2003 in Scottsdale, AZ. Mr. Rives was born on January 2, 1925 in St. Louis, MO to Benjamin Shore and Norma Rose (Dowd) Rives. Mr. Rives served in the Sea Bees from 1943 to 1946, receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy. He married Margaret Louise Menkhus in 1947. In 1956, the couple and two daughters relocated to Wilbraham, MA. As a result of Mr. Rives' work in the automotive industry, he invented and patented the Versa-Tag in 1970 and moved Versa-Tags, Inc. to Cuba, MO, in 1989. Mr. Rives sold the growing company to his daughter, Patricia and her husband, Ronald Garden, in 1991. Mr. and Mrs. Rives moved to Scottsdale, AZ, in 2001. Mr. Rives is survived by his wife, Peg; daughters, Margaret Cook and Patricia Garden; son-in-law, Ronald Garden; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and brothers, Roland and Robert Rives. Arrangements have been entrusted to John L. Ziegenhein & Sons, 4830 Lemay Ferry Rd., St. Louis, MO. Viewing Monday, June 23, 4-8 p.m. Funeral Tuesday, June 24, 10:00 a.m.; with burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Salvation Army.
