Empress Allene (Rives) Adams (1923 - 2012)
The 88 year journey ended for Empress Allene Rives Adams on April 27th, 2012. At the time of her passing, she resided in Midland, TX.
Empress was born to William Alfred Rives and Della Mae Tremble Rives in Fisher County on November 1, 1923.
She was raised on the family farm in Fisher County, on which Empress and her six other siblings grew up picking cotton and other household chores. Empress told stories of how she and her siblings couldn't wait for Saturdays when the family would go to town and the kids would get spending money. They would catch a "picture show" and get "soda waters".
On February 21, 1946 Empress married the love of her life, Troy H. Adams. Together they raised three lovely daughters. Nearly half a century ago, Empress and Troy moved to Kermit TX. It was during this time Empress worked as a beautician with her sister. Sometime after her husband's passing, she decided to give retail a shot working at Serve All, which later became Lowe's Market Place, as a cashier and stocking the candy aisle.
Empress was renowned for cooking skills both at home and at gatherings. Her chocolate sheath cake, potato salad, turkey dressing and pea salad were a few favorites among family and friends. She spent her retirement years filled with gatherings at the Senior Citizen's Center, church and traveling. Empress would spend long afternoons playing dominos or cards at the Senior Citizens Center with her friends. Most importantly she was an active member of Belvue Baptist Church and could be counted on to help on any of the various committees and many times would be the first to volunteer.
To her family she was affectionately called "Grandma Adams," and even lived to give her great-great- grandchildren "loving and sugar" (hugs and kisses). Empress was the type of person who put others' comforts and needs ahead of her own and never backed down from helping others. She leaves behind a legacy of Christianity, good cooking, family first and many wonderful memories.
Those left behind to cherish her memories are her daughters Rilene Hubbard and husband Tobe of Bastrop, TX, Ruby Rives of Aurora, CO; brothers: Billy Rives and wife Jessie of Odessa TX, Rev. Weldon Rives and wife Marj of Borger TX; grandchildren: Kari Yeagerof York, ME, Troy Willhelm and wife Tera of Mansfield ,TX, Kyle Hagood, York, ME, Amanda Brown and husband Randal of Kermit, TX, Empress Pando of Kermit, TX, John Hubbard and wife Julie of Houston, TX, Jad Hubbard and wife Deanna of Smithville, TX, 21 great grandchildren, 5 great- great- grandchildren and numerous other extended family members.
