Alamosa resident Elizabeth Marie Atencio, 60, passed away August 8, 2013 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth was born on October 21, 1952 in Alamosa, Colorado the daughter of Adrian Rivera and Mishi Martinez Rivera. She was united in marriage to Michael Atencio on April 21, 1971 in Antonito, Colorado. Elizabeth was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and sister who enjoyed cooking, traveling, listening to music, caring for her pets, sending cards and letters to family and friends, she loved being in the outdoors, bird watching, going to family gatherings, she was kind, giving and selfless.
Survivors include her husband Michael Atencio of Alamosa, CO; daughter Michelle (Chris) Chacon of Alamosa, CO; sisters Gloria Rivera of Alamosa, CO; Gerry (Peter) Martinez of Strasburg, CO; brothers Juan Luis Rivera of Alamosa, CO; Andrew Rivera of Grand Junction, CO; Carlos (Johanna) Rivera of Louisville, CO. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Adrian and Mishi Rivera.
Viewing and visitation will be Tuesday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Alamosa. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:00 AM also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
