OBITUARY

Funeral services for Dorothy Fencl of Cresco were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 16 at the Notre Dame Parish - Assumption Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. James L. Secora officiating.

Inurnment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Dorothy, 82, died Monday, July 12, 2004 at the Cresco Care Center after an extended illness.

Dorothy Fencl was born January 6, 1922, the daughter of Elmer and Eva (Jacobsen) River. Her father died when she was two months old; she was then given to her father's sister and husband, Florence and Ward Sovereign, where she lived and grew to womanhood. Dorothy attended rural schools graduating from Cresco Public High School in 1939. She attended business college in Minneapolis, MN.

In 1941 she married Charles McCallister in Pismo Beach, CA. They eventually moved to Washington state. Dorothy retired from the Douglas County Public Utility District in 1982. Charles died in 1969. In 1983 she married Richard Fencl and returned to Cresco to live. She was a member of Notre Dame Parish - St. Joseph's Worship Center.

She is survived by two daughters, two sons, four step children, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren, 31 step great-grandchildren, eight step great-great-grandchildren, and one sister [names of the living deleted for privacy].

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Richard Fencl who died in 2003; her first husband, Charles McCallister who died in 1969; one brother: William River; and by her extended family: Florence and Ward Sovereign, Claude Sovereign, Gerald Sovereign, Clark Sovereign, Gladys Wilson, and Doris O'Donnell.
