Actor, Comedian. A legendary figure in television, motion pictures and theatre, he is best remembered for his role in the television comedy series "Three's Company" (1977-1984) and "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" (2002-2003). He received an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for his work on "Three's Company." The youngest son of movie and television singing cowboy actor Tex Ritter and actress Dorothy Fay, it was natural that he would follow his parents' footsteps into show business. He graduated from Hollywood High School and studied Psychology & Architecture at the University of Southern California (USC), when he was urged to take an acting class. He quickly changed his major to Dramatic Arts and graduated with a BA degree in Drama in 1971. During the late 1960s, he joined his father while he was entertaining United States troops in Germany. His first steady job was playing Reverend Matthew Fordwick in the television series "The Waltons." He also appeared in several movies, including: "Nickelodeon" (1976), "They All Laughed" (1981), "Real Men" (1987), "Skin Deep" (1989), "It" (1990), "Problem Child" (1990), "Problem Child 2" (1991), "Stay Tuned" (1992), "Noises Off" (1992), "Sling Blade" (1996), "Tadpole" (2002) and "Bad Santa" (2003). Ritter also voiced Clifford the Big Red Dog in the eponymous PBS Kids animated television series (2000-2003). He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to television, located at 6631 Hollywood Blvd.
