Hilbert Rittenbach, 86, Jamestown, North Dakota died Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.
Hilbert was born July 10, 1917 in Medicine Hill Township about 13 miles south of Butte, North Dakota to Fredrick W. and Rosie Marie (Schock) Rittenbach. Hilbert attended the Medicine Hill School. He spent a few months in the CCC in the Mohall area in 1936-37. On October 8, 1939 he married Esther Hills and they farmed in the Granville area until 1966 when they purchased a farm near Cleveland, ND. In 1990 they sold the farm to their son, Jerry. They moved to Jamestown in 1993. Hilbert did painting of buildings and repair work for many years.
Hilbert was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Jamestown.
He enjoyed refinishing old furniture, but due to his failing health he had to give it up.
Hilbert is survived by his wife, Esther of Jamestown, five children, Rudy (Patti) Rittenbach, Pendleton, OR; Warren (Dona) Rittenbach, Lodi, CA; Donovan (Shelley) Rittenbach, Dublin, CA; Kathleen (Victor) Trautman, Petersburg, AK and Jerry (Teree) Rittenbach, Jamestown, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, four brothers, John, Otto, Fred and Emanual and six sisters, Rosie, Leone, Freida, Marie, Hilda and Esther.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Robert, Ed, Carl and Thiel.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Friday, March 12, 2004 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Jamestown with Pastor David Stuart officiating.
Visitation: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Thursday, March 11, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
