Funeral of Mrs. Henderson Held in Aiken
Special to The State.
Aiken, Feb. 22. - Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. D. S. Henderson, who died Thursday night at the University hospital in Augusta, were held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Presbyterian church in Aiken, of which Mrs. Henderson had long been a faithful member.
The church auditorium was inadequate to hold the large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends of the Henderson family who had gathered to pay a last tribute of respect to one who was universally admired and beloved, and many stood with lowed and uncovered heads about the churchyard during the service.
The Rev. John Eadie Henderson, pastor, conducted the simple service and afterwards officiated at the grave in Bethany cemetery.
The floral offerings were many and beautiful, and included in addition to those from individual friends the tribute from several organizations among these the Grand Lodge, Knights of Pythias of which P. F. Henderson, a son of Mrs. Henderson is grand chancellor; the Aiken lodge, Columbia and Spartanburg lodges, Knights of Pythias; the Aiken Bar association of which Colonel Henderson has long been the head; Graniteville Manufacturing company; Esther Marion chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, of which Mrs. Henderson was regent; pieces from the board of trustees, the faculty and the pupils of the Aiken Institute.
Relatives from out of town in attendance upon the funeral were: Miss Charlotte Henderson, Walterboro; Mrs. George Fraser, Walterboro; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Izzard, Rock Hill; Mrs. Henderson's three brothers, T. J. Ripley, Atlanta; A. W. Ripley, Kirkwood, Ga.; Dr. E. C. Ripley. Decatur, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Robertson, Delaplane, Va., and Miss Sarah Ripley, Atlanta; a niece, Mrs. D. A. McIntyre, Atlanta.
