Carolyn Gertrude Barton, 89, of Gower, MO, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008.
Se was born on July 28, 1919 to Dominic and Lillian (Schwindamann) Ring in Marysville, KS where she grew up and in 1939 graduated from Marysville High School. She also graduated from Castors Beauty School in 1940.
On June 14, 1941 she was united in marriage to James Franklin Barton in Marysville, KS. After their marriage they lived in St. Joseph, and in 1947 they moved to the Gower and Agency area where they made their home. Her husband, Franklin passed away on February 23, 2005.
Carolyn was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Easton, MO where she was a member and an officer of the Altar Society and was past president of the Deanery in 1976. Carolyn was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #359 in St. Joseph, an alumni of the Future Framers of America, an honorary member of the Future Home Makers of America both at East Buchanan High School, the Stamper Club and was an active leader of the 4-H Club. She was a homemaker, loved quilting and was a very active part of her children's school activities.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Carolyn (Barton) Amos, brothers, Jacob Leo, William D., Francis, Raymond, Wilfred, Dominic, Leonard, and Charles, and a sister, Lillian Zawacki.
Carolyn is survived by nine children, Gertrude Beck and husband Paul of St. Joseph, MO, James and wife Christy of St. Joseph, MO, David and wife, Joyce of Kansas City, KS, Charles and wife, Kathy of Gower, MO, Cynthia Grazia no and husband Joe of Beaverton, OR, Ted and wife Jacklyn of St. Joseph, MO, Lillian Mockery and husband, Rick of St. Joseph, MO., Harold and wife, Sara, of St. Joseph, MO, and Franklin and wife, Cathy of St. Joseph, MO., former son-in-law, Gene Amos, of Gower, MO. Sisters, Eleanor Graver, Blanche Doyle and Dorothy Martin and husband, Robert, sister-in-law, Virginia Ring, all of Marysville, KS. numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Mass 10 am Friday, September 19th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Easton, MO. Burial 3 pm Friday at St. Gregory's cemetery, Marysville, KS, with visitation at 2:30 at the St. Gregory's Catholic Church.
Rosary at 6:30 pm with visitation following until 8 pm Thursday at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Gower.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph Catholic Church Altar Society or the Savannah Meals on Wheels.
