Claud was born to Edgar Mitchem and Fannie Holloway Wadley Riley in Searcy, Arkansas. He was a twin to Paul Riley, who died April 1, 1914, and is buried in White Hall United Methodist Cemetery, White Hall, Ark. Claud married Junie Beatrice Mullikin, a daughter of James Frances and Martha J. Blasengame Mullikin of Star City. He did several things during his working years, including working in Detroit in the Auto industry. He and Junie farmed in Star City, and then he became a master carpenter, and stayed at this until his retirement. He was the father of Dorothy Louise Riley Stuckey Lassiter and Wilber Lee Riley. He and Junie are buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was a gentle, quiet person, but loved to tell jokes and laughed a lot.
