Marie's immediate relatives alone could pack a small auditorium, and she will best be remembered for her role as a caretaker, first as the big sister to 17 siblings, then as a wife, as a mother of ten children, as a grandmother, and throughout her life as a nurse.
She was nurturing and thoughtful. She remembered birthdays and anniversaries and always made an effort to be part of any event or celebration in her family. Equally as important and integral to her identity was her faith. Marie was a devout Catholic her whole life. She was active in the church and served as a Eucharistic minister at her parish, St. Joseph's in Vacaville. Her devotion even went as far as giving up chocolate for 40 days each year during lent.
She also loved to travel. Her faith and love of travel inspired pilgrimages to places like Venezuela and Yugoslavia. Marie lived in the Philippines, Morocco, and several U.S. states; she moved with her family to wherever her husband, Harvey, CMSgt Air Force, was stationed. But her love of adventure didn't stop there. She enjoyed road tripping to National Parks and historical sites, whale watching along California's North Coast, going back to Iowa in the summer time to visit family, and flying all over the country to visit her kids and grandchildren.
Among her hobbies and interests, Marie loved baking cookies and pies, going to Air Force Band concerts, tending to her roses and vegetables in the garden, watching televised launches and landings of the space shuttle, reading, and sewing.
Marie is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Harvey; daughters Marie Ann, Annelise (Valentin), and Jo-Anna (Ted); sons Harvey (Marcia), John (Jana), Vincent (Karen), Anthony (Jorgina), David (Heather), Luis (Kim), and James (Shelley); sisters Margaret, Kate, Dolores, and Yvonne; brothers Francie, John, Joe, Paul, Tom, Mike, Philip, and Richard; 22 grandchildren: Christina (Jay), Karen, Jon-Michael (Christina), Nicholas (Shannon), Katie (Lee), Matthew, Stephanie (Brent), Christopher, Noelle (Tim), Neil (Emily), Bryce (April), Curtis (Lacey), Elizabeth, Jackson, Turner, Cooper, Lauren, Lucie, Sarah, Grace, Zachary, and Sophia; seven great-grandchildren: Amity, Addison, Maddie, Drew, Caughnery, Lorelai, and Garrett. She also leaves behind her Siamese cat, Cocoa. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jerry, Bob, Pete, Dennis, and George.
In recognition of her husband's career service in the US Air Force, Marie was laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
