Horace S. Ridout 89, a Confederate veteran, possibly the last member of Capt. S.J.P.McDowell's company recruited in Lockhart, answered the final summons at his home on R.F.D. #1 out of Lockhart on Sunday. The body was laid to rest in Lockhart Cemetery on Tues afternoon, Rev. R.L. Courtney officiating, assisted by Dr. C.E.Moore, pastor of the First Christian Church. Mr. Ridout was in Lockhart only a few days before and greeted his old friends as usual. He was a member of the Christian Church, a man the soul of honor, hospitable in his home, esteemed and loved by all who knew him. He has gone to a rich reward. He was born in Alabama but came to Texas at an early age and did his part in the wonderful development of Caldwell County. He is survivied by his widow, 4 sons: Henry, Louis A, Tracy & Wayland; 3 daughters, Mrs. Claude Young, Mrs John Wilson & Mrs Joe Horner. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. McGinnis of Temple.
