Mary Ellen Ridgway Allman of Vienna died peacefully on Oct. 19, 2009, at The Inn at Marietta.

She was born Feb. 24, 1916, in Ritchie County, daughter of the late Tillie Poole Ridgway and the late Sherman V. Ridgway.

Mary graduated from Pennsboro High School in 1936 and was a member of the band. She attended St. John United Methodist Church in Vienna, sang in the choir and was a member of the Robert Cowden Class. She was a member of the Vienna Chapter No. 151 Order of the Eastern Star since 1975, loved to travel to dinner theaters and also was an active bowler at Emerson Lanes until she was 88.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Allman in 1983; brothers, John Ridgway and wife, Hilda, Carl Ridgway and wife, Madeline, Harry Ridgway and Donald Ridgway; and sister, Loweden Ridgway.

She is survived by her children, Charlene Allman Cottrell and husband, M. Joe, of Fountain Inn, S.C., and Charles E. Allman and wife, Barbara, of Vienna; six grandchildren, Debbie (Cottrell) and husband, Marvin Arnold, of Parkersburg, Michael Cottrell of Parkersburg, Kevin and wife, Brenda Cottrell, of Nashville, Tenn., Matt and wife, Amy Cottrell, of Simpsonville, S.C., Diane (Allman) and husband, Jerry Damron, of Teays Valley, W.Va., and Cathy (Allman) Adkins and husband, Michael Rauh, of Vienna; 11 great-grandchildren, Alison (Arnold) and husband, Justin Blankenship, Laura Arnold, Michael Cottrell, Jason Cottrell, Steven Cottrell, Kelly Cottrell, Haley Cottrell, Tyler Cottrell, Caroline Damron, Lauren Adkins and Hannah Adkins; a brother, Robert Ridgway; sister-in-law, Shirley Ridgway; and nephews, Randall Ridgway, Richard Ridgway and Ronald Ridgway.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with an Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Danny McVey officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
