Born May 6, 1906, in Braggadocio, Mo., she was the daughter of the late William Andrew Long and Clarissa Carolina Harris Long. She was also preceded in death by 10 siblings.
She attended the Braggadocio Schools and Business College in Memphis, Tenn.
Joy was united in marriage to Douglas Cox Johnson on April 21, 1928, in Caruthersville, Mo. He preceded her in death on August 4, 1962.
On December 16, 1970, in Caruthersville, she was united in marriage to L.A. "Mike" Riddick. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2000.
Prior to her retirement, she worked as a secretary for Farmers Home Administration in Caruthersville, and also First State Bank for many years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville.
Mrs. Riddick leaves four children: Barry Riddick, Lewis Riddick, and Joan Griggs of Steele, and Patti Poole of Olive Branch, Miss.;
Nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Riddick were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2004, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with Dr. James Adams and Rev. Jim Mousie officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
Pallbearers were B.J. Riddick, Lewis Riddick, III, Aaron Burton, Josh Yarbrough, Nogi McDaniel, and Casey Ray.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles Albert Faris, Reggie Green, Vivian Jones, Lavanda White and Willis Davidson.
